World Book Day Celebrations

On the last day of term, our school celebrated World Book Day.  Miss Benning and  Miss Martin created a variety of activities for the students to do during the school day that celebrated books and reading.

Books are important because they help you develop your imagination and your vocabulary. This one day consisted of many activities that were great fun.  There were activities such as scavenger hunts where students had to identify teachers’ favourite books from posters around the school.  There were form time quizzes that centred around books and authors.  There was a special visit from the poet Juliette Hart who came to deliver a workshop on poetry to the year 8 students.

Juliette Hart is a Jersey-born poet and is known for her nature-inspired poetry.  She enjoys doing community workshops on the Island and we were lucky to have her visit our school.  Her workshop was very informative and helped us understand how to write poetry.

Her poetry concentrates on themes of island life, memory, personal resilience and her experience of Covid.  Juliette Hart received a very special welcome from the students and everyone created their own poetry in the workshop, there was a variety of poetry genres we explored from comedy to action and gore.

The teachers in school also did a dress up day to mark the occasion of World Book Day.  There were some amazing costumes from the Science Department who did Jurassic Park to the English Department who dressed up as characters from A Christmas Carol.  The Maths Department won the whole competition for best costumes.
