Pi Day is celebrated on the 14th of March at 1:59pm because in America it’s 3/14 which is Pi, 3.14159. The first organised day was promoted and founded by Larry Shaw in 1988 in San Francisco’s Science Museum.  He was an employee there.

Pi is an irrational number, meaning its digits never end or repeat, making it impossible to calculate completely. In 2015, Indian student Rajveer Meena set a world record by reciting over 70,000 digits of Pi and currently there are 314 trillion decimal places.

At School, Mr Grocott organised a fun day to promote this as a numeracy focus.  On this day, lessons across the curriculum focused on this subject and used Pi as the inspiration.
