Exploring Atoms in Year 7 Science

I have enjoyed learning about atoms in Year 7. We learnt how atoms are building blocks of all matter, consisting of a central nucleus surrounded by shells and electrons. Something else I really liked was making our 3D atoms.  It was lots of fun and really opened my mind to see what a real atom looks like as well as helped me to build on my knowledge of this subject.

I feel activities like this should be done more often to allow other students, in different schools to get a chance to open their minds and use their imaginations to create the sculptures like we did. Everyone enjoyed doing this activity as we had plenty of time and support at school to make the models to a high standard. Each child made a 3D sculpture of an atom, and they all looked fantastic! Some children took less time to construct while others took the whole 2 weeks to make these amazing sculptures. Interactive lessons like this make learning fun and it makes it easier to remember information as the sculptures are labelled for presentation.
