What is Kooth?

Kooth is a free, safe, and anonymous online platform providing mental health and emotional wellbeing support for children and young people (often ages 13-25), offering 24/7 access to self-help resources, moderated forums, goal trackers, and live chat/counselling with BACP-accredited professionals during specific hours. It’s a digital service designed to be accessible, anonymous, and provides immediate support for young people struggling with various life challenges.  

 
What does Kooth do?

Kooth provides free, safe, and anonymous online mental health support for young people (and adults via Qwell), offering 24/7 access to self-help resources, moderated forums, journals, and scheduled text-based chats with professional counsellors for immediate or out-of-hours support. It’s a digital platform available on any device, designed to help users with their emotional wellbeing through accessible tools, articles, and one-on-one guidance.

 
How has Kooth helped young people?

Kooth helps young people by offering free, safe, and anonymous online mental health support, providing counselling, self-help resources, moderated forums, and tools like journals and goal trackers to build coping skills, identify triggers, and feel less alone, accessible without a GP referral for ages 13-25 in commissioned areas like Jersey.

Kooth is a free, anonymous online platform offering mental health support for young people (ages 10+) in the UK, providing 24/7 access to articles, community forums, and text-based chat with BACP accredited counsellors and practitioners, with live chat available daily, offering a crucial out-of-hours service via any internet-connected device, focusing on privacy and age-appropriate content for users across the nation.

The Government of Jersey has commissioned Kooth (a digital service accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and currently available across three quarters of the UK and within the Isle of Man) to provide the scheme, which is open to all Islanders aged between 13 and 25 and overseas Jersey students, on or off Island, without the need for a referral. 

 

Kooth offers free independent one-to-one youth counselling services currently offered through YES (Youth Enquiry Service) for ages 14-25 and through school and college counselling. Kooth provides a safe, moderated, and non-judgmental place for young people to talk, connect and chat with others and know they are not alone. The service offers drop-in or bookable sessions with professional counsellors between 12pm and 10pm on weekdays and between 6pm and 10pm on weekends.  Young people also have instant access to self-help materials, live moderated discussion forums and tools such as online journals and goal trackers.

Our school had a recent assembly about Kooth and how students can access this help which is an amazing tool for anyone who is struggling.  The assembly was very informative and helped us understand that there is always help at hand that is accessible and free even when at home.
