Ocean Culture Life Inspires Students

Are you worried about our oceans?

Do you want to protect our oceans for the future?  Ocean Culture Life is an organisation that wants to protect the planet’s oceans. They create awareness of the critical issues that the oceans face through storytelling. The organisation’s aim is not just to create awareness but also to educate people about what is happening and what can be done to help. Ocean Culture Life’s initiatives aim to deepen public understanding and connection to our seas. Their mission is to empower a global community of ocean storytellers and guardians to inspire, educate, and protect.

Ocean Culture Life has a global platform, and they bring communities together to run workshops and events and connect people who have a keen interest in the ocean.  Haute Vallee School is one of the communities that have recently got involved in one of their competitions. The school was lucky enough to have two local sisters, who now work for the organization, come to the school and give a presentation. They also worked alongside Sir David Attenborough in his most recent filming.  They gave us a description of their jobs and an insight on the exotic locations that they are lucky enough to have worked in, which was very interesting and informative. As the presentation ended, they told us about their upcoming competition ahead of the “world global day.”

Getting the community involved.

Haute Vallee students were all given the opportunity to enter the competition to capture some images of the ocean. Students were encouraged to be as creative as they liked and could enter pieces ranging from art to photography.

After lots of entries from the students, there were two fantastic pieces of artwork chosen from Haute Vallee to represent our school. Shanvi and Leon, both year nine students were shortlisted and represented Haute Vallee at the prize giving ceremony. Shanvi, a promising young artist, painted an amazing beach sunset scene. Leon, who showed a lot of creativity, entered an incredible art piece in which he had painted an image of a whale on a surfboard. Both were remarkable in terms of the standard or art and inspiration they achieved from nature.

The presentation got the students inspired and involved and Ocean Culture Life got their message across. Hopefully, people are now more aware of the damage we are doing to our oceans and have more knowledge about how to help look after and preserve what we have.
