Katie Carter is the School-Based Counsellor at Haute Vallée School. Katie is a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). BACP accreditation recognises practitioners who have demonstrated a high standard of professional competence, ethical practice and experience.
Katie has extensive experience working therapeutically with children and young people, both within education and through external agencies. She maintains up-to-date safeguarding knowledge and works within professional and ethical guidelines to provide a confidential service that places students’ safety and wellbeing at the centre of her practice.
The counselling service at Haute Vallée provides students with a safe and supportive space to explore difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences without fear of judgement or blame. Counselling can help students to reduce psychological distress, develop greater emotional awareness and resilience, improve wellbeing and make positive changes that may also support their engagement with learning.
Counselling is voluntary and takes place with the young person’s consent. Students can refer themselves directly to the service, while referrals may also be made by teachers, school-based staff, parents/carers or external professionals.
